Consultations

At Darling Street Vets we recommend that your pets have an annual health consultation to ensure they are in optimal health. As your pets become older (>8 years of age), it is advisable to bring them in for a general health consultation and blood tests every six months.

Dogs and cats age rapidly – on average five to eight times faster than humans, and therefore major health changes can occur in a short amount of time.

Depending on their breed, many pets by age two years have reached adulthood, by four years they are entering middle age, and by seven to eight years of age particularly larger breeds of dogs are entering their senior years.

The risk of heart disease, arthritis, kidney disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity and other serious conditions all unfortunately increase with age.  Early detection is important and annual to bi-annual health checks can help our Veterinarians to diagnose and treat problems early, or even prevent problems occurring altogether, therefore enabling the best possible outcome for your pet.

If you notice any changes in your pet’s routine, behaviour, appetite, drinking, or toileting habits it is best to come in for a consultation as soon as possible.  Regular health consultations with our Vets are a great opportunity to ask us about nutrition, behaviour or any other issues or questions at all that you may have regarding the health of you pets.
