Senior Patient Care

Senior patients are generally considered to be those aged 8 years and over.

We recommend that your senior pet has a general health consultation with one of our veterinarians at a minimum of every 6 months, or sooner if you notice any changes in their habits, behaviours or demeanour.

Unfortunately, senior pets develop health issues more readily than younger animals, and the earlier we detect changes in their health, the more likely it will be that we can intervene and hopefully treat the condition or at least slow down its progression.

Common screening tests for older animals include blood tests - particularly to assess kidney, liver and thyroid function as well as other parameters, chest xrays to assess the heart and lungs, osteoarthritis assessments and blood pressure measurements.
